The Home.MarsSociety.org and Chapters.MarsSociety.org subdomains have been set up for Mars Society members to build websites for Mars-related projects and general chapter communication & outreach. Any Mars Society member can set up a website on the server for free and there are no banner advertisement or space limitations. To get started, send email to Bruce MacKenzie.
This server has been provided by the Cyberteams company for use by the Mars Society (as well as other organzations such as the Artemis Society). The server is hosted by pair.com and is located on a major Internet Point of Presence (POP), a place where the Internet's backbone networks converge. The server has multiple redundant connections to the Internet, extremely high bandwidth, is supported by a professional staff, and offers the Mars Society and other organizations a lot of room for growth.
In addition, Cyberteams is providing to the Mars Society a license to use their WebSite Director software suite, which includes three independent products, one of which retails for several thousand dollars. The Mars Society is getting use of the server and software for some upcoming promotional considerations, but it's still a great donation of time & resources to us from the Cyberteams staff -- especially CEO Randall Severy who is a longtime Artemis Society member and now an active Mars Society member.
The server is also being developed and maintained by other Mars Society Internet Task Force members such as Jim Burk, Bruce MacKenzie, and others.
This server does not host the Mars Society home page located at http://www.marssociety.org/. That website is hosted and maintained by Marc Boucher, who can be reached at webmaster@marssociety.org.
