Cook's Report

Virgiliu Pop Reporting

1a) Today was
- a cooking day

1b) Was today a special day celebrated at the main meal with special food or activity?
- No. Tomorrow will be a national holiday celebrating the union of the Romanian Principalities (1859), but mixing Wallachian and Moldavian food is not possible here (where is the corn flour for ‘Mamaliga’ – Polenta?)

2) List the foods served at today's main meal (usually the evening meal), giving full names of each.
- Morning meal: We woke up VERY late, so we did not have a proper breakfast (it’s Sunday). We had a brunch instead.Beverages: coffee and tea.
- Brunch: Haritina made us some ‘azimi’ (unleavened bread tortillas) – we ate them with processed cheese (the crew) and with a can of chili (the captain). Just by chance, a truck passing by the hab dropped some cans of beer and a bag of chips; we could not let them go to waste, so we ate them.
- Evening meal: Yang Liwei Chicken.

3) List any main meal foods not finished by the crew (leftovers stored for later use or discarded)
- None

4) Recipes for anything more complicated than following package directions exactly, or rehydrating.
- Remember yesterday’s chicken who crossed the road to get dehydrated and shipped to Mars? We ate it tonight and named the dish for China's first taikonaut.

Recipe: Yang Liwei chicken.
Fry some rehydrated onions in ghee and peanut butter. Mix in some powdered ginger and some soy sauce. Meanwhile, rehydrate freeze-dried chicken, dehydrated leeks, dehydrated mixed peppers, sweet corn and mushrooms. Add these to the fried mixture. Adjust seasonings by adding hot sauce, sesame oil, and more soy sauce to taste.

Serve over cooked spaghetti

5) Comments/questions:
- Haritina and I were supposed to do some food inventorying - yet got way too busy with fixing the EVA helmets, so we'll do it tomorrow ...
