Cook's Report
Beatrice Gilea Reporting
1a) Today was
- a cooking day, yay!
1b) Was today a special day celebrated at the main meal with special
food or activity?
- No.
2) List the foods served at today's main meal
- Morning meal: Pancakes, american style, with maple syrup or nutella.
- Lunch: Nothing, the pancakes were very filling.
- Evening meal: Taikonaut's Treat, recipe to follow
3) List any main meal foods not finished by the crew (leftovers stored
for later use or discarded)
- None
4) Recipes :
- Pancakes. Wake-up early, make yourself a cup of coffee, then mix in
a bowl some (yes, Captain Cook never uses measures; measures use
Captain Cook) dehydrated eggs, dehydrated milk, dehydrated water,
flour, baking soda, and sugar. Add water, stir well. Heat some butter
on a frying pan. Pour the mix, then cook until Gordon Brown. Serve
hot, with Nutella or syrup.
- Taikonaut treat: Find a bag of dehydrated hamburger meat labeled
'crew 98'. Fry some sesame seeds, then make 'Yang Liwei Chicken',
replacing the chicken with the above beef. Rejoice.
5) Comments/questions for Kim and Jean, the food study investigators
- Soy sauce about to run out; we no longer have dehydrated raspberries.
Note from food study coordinator: Pancake recipe from Web using powdered milk and eggs
Adapted from http://selfreliantsisters.blogspot.com/2010/02/4-blender-pancake-recipes.html
1 cup milk (translation for powdered milk is 3 TBSP milk and 1 cup water)
1.5 cups white or whole wheat flour, or a mixture (or 200g)
2 eggs (2 TBSP powdered eggs + ¼ cup water)
2 tsp baking powder
1.5 tsp salt
2 TBSP salad oil
2 TBSP honey or sugar
Mix dry ingredients together. Mix in wet ingredients until smooth. (Can also be made in blender) Let batter rest a few minutes to thicken. Pour out batter into pancakes onto a hot greased griddle or large frying pan. Flip pancakes when bubbles rise to the top of the pancake and pop.
