Subject: Websites Updated (and, link addresses changed)
Date: Thu, 25 May 2000 3:15:27 -0000 (GMT)
From: Dean Calahan
Hi everybody.

(Thanks Bruce, for adding folks to this list. And Hi Marc, you might want to
change any links to the TTF or the Life-Support project to the ones below)

Just thought I'd inform you all that I made some minor changes to the tech
and life-support websites. Namely, because there are now so many files
involved, I distributed them among various directories. The upshot is that
now the following links are the correct addresses:

http://home.marssociety.org/tech/htm/
http://home.marssociety.org/tech/life-support/htm/

(note the htm/ at the end, which is new).

Also, I made a some very minor changes to the content:

1. In the flow diagram one dashed line was a little jagged, plus I reduced
the diagram's width somewhat to better fit on smaller screens;
2. Reduced the font size on the team page so that more of it fits on smaller
screens, without having to scroll horizontally;
3. Fixed a bug that caused email addresses on the team page to be incorrect;

I was going to get to having the email list automatically created by the
same automation that creates the team page. In fact I was going to do it
this week. But (as some of you surely realize) this web stuff is a fiddler's
paradise. That, combined with a habit of mine to obsess about certain
arguably trivial details (for example, the indentation patterns of the HTML
source that gets generated) and the fact that I seem to both travel much
more than in the past and have house guests more frequently have conspired
to delay that. So once again, thanks to Bruce!

Volunteer opportunities:

There are a couple of things that I doubt I will get to until some other
stuff that I want to work on is finished.

1. "Related Links" - I basically stole a bunch of relevant links from Terry
Kok's "Ecotechnics" list. If somebody wanted to finish that task (I think I
got maybe half way through it before Covad decided that, no, they COULDN'T
supply me with DSL and my connection became 30 times slower again).
Basically I was visiting each link, and making a judgement call as to
whether it applied fairly closely to either a WWTS for F-MARS, or CELSS per
se. For example, straw bale home building didn't make it in, but solar water
pasteurization did.

2a. "Email Archive" - if somebody wants to dig through old email (prior to
when Terry joined the discussion) and paste it together into a bunch of
digests, I would definitely appreciate that and put that content online

2b. "Email Archive" - if somebody wants to GROVEL through Terry's (and
anybody else's that gets posted) archives and summarize the various threads
of conversation, references to data, and so forth, that would REALLY be
great. This is a lot of work, and I would suggest it be broken up amongst
several authors. First, to reduce the individual work load; second, to help
make sure that nothing gets skipped.
